Living, learning, growing, regenerating. Now offering registered Finnsheep for sale.

On the Farmstead

Here, on a little ranch in Grangeville, Idaho, our family tends a flock of Finnsheep, a big dog, a few pigs, a flock of chickens, a bevy of ducks, lots of plants and myriad biology. “Bona Vita”: We believe that the “good life” is why we were put on this earth. Our family seeks to live it, building-up a culture of life while striving to learn and to excel in animal husbandry, soil health, and horticulture.

Our ewes and their lambs, doing what they do best!

We work to keep up our end of the bargain. The soil takes care of us, if we steward it.

The garden…ever a source of interest, joy, occasional rage, and delicious veg!

Ruminants are the keystone species of pasture ecosystems. Our keystone species: Finnish Landrace Sheep. An adaptable, multipurpose breed, Finnsheep are renowned for their friendly disposition, tasty meat, and exceedingly soft, lustrous wool. They are also prolific breeders: triplets and quads are not uncommon. Lambs aplenty, lambs galore! Thankfully, Finns are also good mothers. Provided adequate nutrition, they can supply milk for their entire clan.

Interested in raising a companionable herbivore? Looking to produce your own fiber for projects and crafts? Hankering after succulent mutton? Needing grass clipped and fertilized? Our Finns may be right for you….and a number are for sale! Contact us today for availability, the possibility of delivery, and more.

  • No Airbags
It’s been a long time since our last post. You would think, it having been winter and all, that there would be more time for posting…or at least that updating the farmstead blog would be a higher priority. Neither turned-outContinue reading “No Airbags”
  • A Horticultural Update
The garden has been coming along nicely this year. Granted, the growing season has been odd this year, with things off to a slow start, followed by blistering heat, followed by unseasonably cool wet. But, all griping aside, things areContinue reading “A Horticultural Update”
